The Puddle Bird
Fifi and Momo wait in line for the ice cream truck, but a tiny bird helps the time fly.
Fifi grabbed Momo's paw. "The ice cream truck!" she said, racing across the grass. They stopped at the back of a long line. Fifi slumped against a tree. "We'll never reach the front."
Momo's ears drooped. "What do we do while we wait?" he asked, watching the line inch forward.
Fifi was about to pout when she heard a splashing sound. A little sparrow was bathing in a puddle under the bench. Its wings sent tiny sparkles of water into the air.
Fifi giggled as the bird shook its tail feathers. Momo crouched low, his nose twitching. "It looks like a furry sprinkle, " Fifi whispered. The bird hopped twice and flew away.
Suddenly, they were next. Fifi ordered a strawberry swirl cone, and Momo got a tiny scoop of vanilla. They sat on the sunny bench, and Fifi licked her ice cream.
She smiled at the puddle. "That bird was the best part of waiting, " she said. Momo's tail wagged as he nibbled his treat, and the puddle shimmered in the sun.
