The Secret Under the Soil
Fifi plants a sunflower seed and discovers the best surprises take patience.
Fifi pressed a tiny sunflower seed into the damp soil. 'Hurry up and grow!' she whispered. Her dad smiled. 'Seeds need time, sweetheart.'
Momo tilted his head. 'How much time?' he asked. 'Maybe a week, ' Dad said. Fifi sighed. 'That is forever!'
Every morning, Fifi ran to the garden spot. Still just brown dirt. 'Nothing yet, ' Momo said softly.
On the third day, Fifi poked the soil with her finger. 'Maybe I can help it along?' Momo whispered, 'I think seeds like to sleep.' He pretend-tucked the soil with his paw. Fifi giggled and patted it back. 'Okay, little seed. Keep sleeping.'
One sunny morning, Fifi saw a tiny green bump in the dirt. 'Momo, look!' She knelt down. A delicate sprout with two small leaves reached up.
Momo cheered, 'You waited, and it woke up!' Fifi gently gave it a sip of water. All day, they sat nearby, watching the little plant stretch toward the sun.
