The Fuzzy Letters
When Grandpa's newspaper print looks fuzzy, Fifi finds a kind way to help him see the stories within.
Fifi and Momo bounced through Grandpa's kitchen door. 'We're here!' Fifi called. Grandpa sat in his big chair, the newspaper crinkling in his hands. 'Hello, my darlings. I'm just trying to read, but the letters are dancing, ' he said, squinting hard.
Momo tilted his head. 'What do the dancing letters look like?' he asked, his nose twitching.
Fifi looked at the fuzzy black marks. 'I can read them for you, Grandpa!' she offered. She climbed onto the arm of his chair and took the paper carefully. 'There's a story about a cat stuck in a tree, ' she began.
Momo's ears shot up. 'A stuck cat? Oh no! Is it too high?' he whimpered, peeking from behind Fifi. Fifi smiled and kept reading. 'Don't worry, Momo. Listen: the firefighter climbs up and carries the cat down safely.'
Grandpa chuckled, his shoulders relaxing. 'I heard every word. That was a good rescue.' Fifi read a few more stories, and soon Grandpa's eyes crinkled with laughter instead of squinting.
When they finished, Fifi folded the newspaper and saw the warm afternoon sun making patterns on Grandpa's rug. Momo flopped down in the sunbeam, still chattering about the brave firefighter.
