The Cane's Clatter
When a cane clatters to the bus floor, Fifi and Momo discover that even small hands can be a big help.
Fifi held Momo on her lap as the bus rumbled down the street. A tall man with a cane sat across from them, and suddenly his cane slipped and clattered to the floor.
The man looked tired and leaned forward, but the cane had rolled too far. Momo nudged Fifi's hand and whispered, 'Should we help him?'
Fifi looked at Mom and then nodded. She scooted off her seat and carefully picked up the wobbly cane.
As she handed it back, the cane started to tip again. Fifi caught it just in time, and Momo let out a tiny giggle. The man's eyes crinkled with a smile.
'Thank you, little helper, ' the man said as he steadied the cane. Fifi grinned and climbed back onto her seat.
The bus kept rolling, and Momo licked Fifi's cheek. Through the window, the sun made a warm spot on the man's cane, and it glinted gold.
