The Book with the Red Ribbon
Fifi has a book to return, but her block tower is almost finished.
Fifi stacked a blue block on top of two yellow ones. "This tower will reach the ceiling, " she said. Momo circled the rug, his tail swishing gently.
Momo tilted his head. "But Fifi, what about the book from Mrs. Chen? You promised to bring it back before dinner."
"One more block, " Fifi said, reaching for a red one. She set it carefully on top, but the whole tower wobbled. Momo scooted over and pressed his paw against the base, but it still tumbled down with a soft crash.
They both stared at the scattered blocks. Then the kitchen clock chimed six times. Fifi gasped. "The book! We have to go now!" She scooped up the book with its red ribbon and dashed for the door.
Fifi and Momo hurried next door. Mrs. Chen opened the door with a warm smile. "I was just thinking about reading this to my cat, Whiskers, " she said, holding the book gently.
On the walk home, Momo gazed up at Fifi. "Tomorrow, can we build a tower like the castle in the book?" Fifi laughed. "Only if I don't forget to return it on time."
