The Tiptoe Song
Fifi has to walk down the creaky hallway at her grandparents' house. With Momo by her side, she finds a brave and silly way to make it less scary.
"Momo, do you hear that?" Fifi whispered, clutching her nightgown. The wooden floor of her grandparents' hallway groaned as she shifted her feet.
Momo tilted his head. "Why does the floor growl like a sleepy bear?" he asked, his little fox body pressing close to her ankle.
Fifi took a long breath. "Maybe if we sing to it, it will stop being scary, " she said. She started a tiny tune: "Creaky board, squeaky board, don't you roar, I'm just passing by, no need to snore."
Momo's ears perked up. He added a soft "la la la" as they inched forward. The next board let out a long squeak, and they both burst into giggles, the sound chasing the spookiness away.
When they reached the bathroom, Fifi noticed the little nightlight by the wall was off. She clicked it on, and a soft star shape glowed on the floor planks. "Look, Momo, a star to guide us back, " she said.
They tiptoed back, no longer scared. Back in bed, Fifi and Momo watched the star-shaped light flicker on the wall until their breathing slowed and the star seemed to wink goodnight.
